Wings in 2-0 control

Johan Franzen and the red wings seem to be in complete control after a well earned win in overtime against the Blackhawk’s. After Mikael Samuelsson's game winning goal it seemed the hawks were completely deflated and who wouldn't be after they played so well only to get a loss for it. I really cant wait for the next game to start on Friday in Chicago and see if the wings can dominate game 3 like they did in the 3rd period of game one. What I would really like to see is something more from Jonathan Ericsson. Don't get me wrong, he's be playing some great hockey but when you have the size he has (6-5 205lbs) you need the throw your body around a little more then he is. Anyways the wings are doing a great job and their wining so I’m happy.

2 In a Row!!!

Detroit is back on track after a rocky series with the Twins by winning their past two games. Porcello had a great game pitching 6 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 walks and had 5 strikeouts. For the second straight game the tigers had the pitching and the hitting on track! Seay, Zumaya, and Rodney pitched after the 6th inning and all of them pitch great with Seay being the only one to allow a hit.

Miguel Cabrera continues to be hot with the bat as he went 3 for 4 ( two of them being doubles) one walk and a whopping 4 RBI. Another guy that has started hitting well in the series is Ryan Raburn who went 2 for 4 with one of them being a home run and drove in 3 runs. Gerald Laird also had a solid game going 3 for 4 and a RBI. Its nice to see Laird start hitting the way he did early in the season. This was an entertaining game to watch if you are tigers fan and I hope there’s more to come.

Great pitching and 2 grand slams!!

Tonight’s game turned into a long one with the rain delays and the amount of hitting the tigers did. Edwin Jackson had a great game and was clearly on top of his stuff by only allowing one run and had six strike outs in seven innings. Jackson had a great fast ball and good slider going for him and the rain delays didn't slow him down at all. Edwin has really been a breath of fresh air to Detroit because whenever he goes out it seems like you really don't have to worry if he’s going to get the job done. Another good thing was he finally got the run support that he hasn't been getting all season along.

Now lets talk about the bats. The tigers had two grand slams tonight, the first one was Ryan Raburn in the first inning which gave the tigers a 5 to 0 lead. The tigers didn't stop there with all the bats seeming to find the ball well and after the late rain delay was over, Brandon Inge Hit a the second grand slam of the game to center field. It was a great feeling to see everything going right and not having to rely on just pitching to win the game.

Cleary Helps Wings Advance!!!

Detroit got past the Duck with the help of Dan Clearys late period goal to make it 4-3. Cleary has seemed to be some what quiet in the series until tonight when he had the game winning goal. In my opinion this series should have been over along time ago because the wings outplayed the ducks most of the series but when the games would end some how the Ducks would end up on top with a lucky goal or a lucky save from Hiller. One thing that I think gave the Red Wings a hard time is how physical the Ducks were knocking the wings off the puck and keeping them unbalanced when the Wings would enter the Ducks zone with the puck. I think with the way the two teams have played they are showing us that a nice rivalry has started between them and I only see it getting deeper in the next few years.
Now the only thing in the way of the wings getting back to the stanley cup finals is the Chicago Blackhawks. This is going to be an interesting series since the two teams are original six teams and its so late in the playoffs. Its going to be a fun series to watch and I know im going to enjoy it a lot!!

GO WINGS!!!

Great Start, Bad Finish

For the second straight day the tigers did good until the end of the game came near. Today Justin Verlander was having another dominate performance all the way up to the 7th inning. Verlander had allowed 5 hits and 3 walks, 0 earned runs and 13 strikeouts when he was pull out of the game with 2 outs remaining and 2 on base. After that, everything caved in and the tigers relief pitching allowed a six run inning to happen. It was very sad to see a performance like Verlander's go to waste but it does happen and all you can do afterward is ask questions on if it was the right decision to pull Verlander when Jim Leyland did. In my opinion they should have left him out there to finish off the inning and then change the pitcher. You could tell how disappointed he was when he was pulled. On the other hand, if Seay would have got the 2 outs with out allowing a run to score we would all be praising Leyland. I just wish it would have turned out better for Verlander and the tigers after last nights game.

Well, Its a Start

Tonight was the great return of Dontrelle Willis. Well, it was just ok I guess but it doesn't hurt talking up a guy making his first start of the season. Hey, he didn't get the win or the loss but a lot of that has to do with the way the bats were tonight. Detroit pitching got a lot of run support to help take some pressure off of the pitchers tonight but the twins bats were just as active tonight. The tigers got into a nice little groove but it seemed the twins had an answer to Detroit by tying it up or taking the lead. To be honest the game still hasn't ended but I wanted to talk about Willis before I went to bed lol. He looked to have better control then he had before even though he did issue some walks. The thing I like about what he did was that he was throwing strikes, more than he did before. Seeing him with better control gives us all hope that he can and will return back to his old form, or at least a decent starter. Whelp, I hope Willis all the best.

GO TIGERS!!!

Bondo on his way back

Jeremy Bonderman is on the road back to Detroit by doing some rehab work with the White Caps. Its kind of interesting that no one has really noticed or talked about Bondo since he was put on the DL to try to finish his recovery of the surgery he had last summer but its understandable because the Tigers starting pitching has been sold if not dominate at time. Usually when things are going right everyone forgets about the things that are out of site. Kind of like what happened to Dontrelle Willis or Marcus Thames. I really am missing Marcus right now though, a big bat in the middle of the line up is always nice. Anyway with Bondo coming back it brings up questions on who the tigers will send down to the minors or push into the bullpen. It makes me wonder if that’s why they are going to start D-Train today and see how he has come along. If he doesn't show improvement in a certain amount of starts he is given it might be one of the last time we see of the D-Train in the D.
